This weeks Things To Do is all about wineries! If you are ready for a change of scenery after the fourth, check out some of the great wineries our region has to offer:

Head north via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and check out Chatham Vineyards in Machipongo. Set amongst farmland and grape vines, this relaxing winery offers wine flights and peace and quiet! Enjoy the cool AC inside or nature watch outside where it’s very likely you will catch a glimpse or two of frolicking deer that call the eastern shore home. After your visit, grab a bite to eat in nearby Cape Charles, a place so much like a Hallmark movie you expect to see a big time city lady meeting her old highschool boyfriend (now all grown up and good looking) who runs his family Christmas tree farm. 😂

Or head out to Smithfield, home of ham and peanuts and discover a winery that is actually set in a Christmas tree farm🎄, SummerWind Vineyard. A newer winery, this place continues to grow and offer more and more to their winery guests. Homemade sangrias, live music and super huge snack boards all make this place this a very chill getaway.

If you are heading past Williamsburg, go check out the hillside views from Saude Creek Vineyard in Lanexa. Lots of patio seating with spectacular views and excellent wine. Be sure to say hello to the huge black cat that roams around, greeting guests and taking naps! 🐈‍⬛

If you are into good times and goats🐐, this next winery is for you! Hampton Roads Winery in Elberon is a pretty winery set around a working farm. There are cows mooing in the background and goats climbing around a tower you have to see to believe! They often have fun events and live music so be sure to check them out on FB

All of these wineries are within about an hours drive from VB. If you have more time or want to do an overnight trip, head to Charlottesville (3 hour drive). There, you can visit multiple wineries within 3-6 miles of each other. Check out local tours and let them do the driving while you sit back and enjoy the wine!
