Ghent Homes- Norfolk

The Ghent District of Norfolk is a historic neighborhood complete with cobblestone streets and a beautiful lore of the area’s name. As the story goes, back in 1810 a man b the name of J. Moran owned a large amount of land long the Elizabeth River. He was so inspired by the conclusion of the War of 1812 and the Treaty of Ghent that ended it, that he named his estate Ghent in honor of the peace restoring document. This is just one of origin tales for Ghent and which one is true remains unclear, but what we do know is that this area of Norfolk is very old, beautiful and contains many historical homes. Listed with the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the residences in this part of Norfolk are examples of Queen Anne revival, the Colonial revival and the Tudor revival. A walk through historic Ghent is a walk through time. Now, while beautiful & historical, the area is also trendy and has a vibrant sense of community. Lots of great restaurants, breweries & a lively art scene make Ghent a picturesque destination for all.
